EDITORIAL PROCESS
All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Medical and Biomedical Sciences must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere. One author must be designated as the corresponding author for all communication with the journal. All submissions are formally acknowledged upon receipt.
Each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening to assess originality, scientific quality, technical soundness, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Manuscripts with major flaws or insufficient novelty are rejected at this stage without external review.
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are subjected to double-blind peer review by at least two independent expert reviewers. Authors may suggest potential reviewers; however, the final selection is at the discretion of the Editor. Reviewers must have no institutional affiliation with the authors. Manuscripts submitted by Editorial Board members are handled independently by the Editor-in-Chief, and the concerned member is excluded from the decision-making process.
Based on reviewers’ comments, the assigned editor makes one of the following decisions: acceptance, revision, or rejection. Authors are required to submit a point-by-point response to reviewer comments when revisions are requested. The review process may continue until the manuscript meets the journal’s standards.
Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting for language, formatting, and style. Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author for approval and must be returned within seven days. All submission, review, and publication processes are conducted online.
To promote rapid dissemination of research, accepted articles are published online as “Ahead of Print” immediately after final acceptance.
PROCESS FOR APPEALS
Author(s) have the right to appeal a rejection decision if they believe it was made in error. Appeals must be submitted by email to the editorial office, clearly stating detailed scientific reasons for reconsideration.
All appeals are formally acknowledged and reviewed objectively and independently. The appeal process is completed within 2–3 weeks. During this period, the manuscript must not be submitted to another journal.
The final decision on the appeal is made by the Editor-in-Chief. Second appeals are not considered.
ANTI-PLAGIARISM POLICY
Plagiarism includes duplicate publication of the author’s own work, in whole or in part without proper citation or mispresenting other’s ideas, words, and other creative expression as one’s own. The Journal follows strict anti-plagiarism policy. All manuscripts submitted to Journal of Medical and Biomedical Sciences undergoes plagiarism check with commercially available software. Based on the extent of plagiarism, authors may be asked to address any minor duplication, or similarity with the previous published work. If plagiarism is detected after publication, the Journal will investigate. If plagiarism is established, the journal will notify the authors’ institution and funding bodies and will retract the plagiarized article. To report plagiarism, contact the journal office at jmabsjournal@gmail.com
GENERATIVE AI POLICY
Authors using generative AI or AI-assisted tools in manuscript writing, image creation, data collection, or analysis must clearly disclose the name of the AI tool and its purpose in the Methods or Acknowledgments section.
Authors are fully responsible for all submitted content, including any AI-generated material. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Any misuse leading to plagiarism, fabrication, or ethical misconduct will be handled according to the journal’s publication ethics policies. A statement on ethics committee permission must be included in all research articles.
The Journal of Medical and Biomedical Sciences requires registration of clinical trials in a publicly accessible clinical trial registry. The journal publishes only those clinical trials that are registered in registries providing free online public access.
Acceptable trial registries include:
Clinical trials that began enrolling participants in or after June 2018 must be prospectively registered. Trials initiated before June 2018 will be considered only if they have been retrospectively registered in an approved public registry.
AUTHORSHIP CRITERIA
Authorship should be based on substantial contributions to all of the following:
Funding acquisition, data collection alone, or general supervision does not qualify for authorship. Each author must take public responsibility for relevant portions of the work.
The order of authors should reflect their relative contribution. Changes in authorship after submission require written consent from all authors. If the number of authors exceeds the journal’s prescribed limit (depending upon the type of manuscript), a clear justification must be provided.
JMABS follows the definition of authorship given by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)
Contribution Details
Authors must clearly state their individual contributions to the manuscript. Contributions may include: concept, study design, intellectual content, literature review, clinical or experimental work, data collection, data analysis, statistical analysis, manuscript writing, editing, and review.
The contribution statement will be published with the article.
One or more authors must act as the guarantor, taking full responsibility for the integrity of the work from study initiation to publication.
CONFLICTS OF INTEREST / COMPETING INTERESTS
All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest related to the manuscript, including relationships with institutions, products mentioned in the study, or competing products.
If any author is a member of the Editorial Board, this must be clearly declared.
All declared conflicts will be disclosed in the published article.
REPORTING STANDARDS
Authors of the original research article must present accurate data of work performed during their research. Authors are also expected to discuss the objective of their work and the significance of their results. An article should contain sufficient information and references to ensure the reproducibility of the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are considered unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.
ABBREVIATIONS
Standard abbreviations should be used throughout the manuscript. All nonstandard abbreviations should be kept to a minimum and must be defined in the text following their first use.
SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS
Manuscripts must be submitted online through the journal’s submission system. First-time users must register (free and mandatory). Registered authors can track their submissions using their login credentials. No submission fees are charged. For technical issues, authors may contact the editorial office by email at jmabsjournal@gmail.com
Manuscripts not prepared according to the “Instructions to Authors” will be returned for correction before editorial or peer review.
Submissions should generally be uploaded as two/three separate files, as specified in the author guidelines.
[1] Title Page/First Page File/covering letter: The Title Page should include the type of manuscript (e.g., original article, case report, case series, meta-analysis, systematic review, review article, letter to the editor, images, etc.), the full title of the manuscript, and a short running title. The title must be clear, concise, and informative.
The names of all authors/contributors should be listed along with their highest academic degrees, designations, and affiliations. Each author’s affiliation must include the department, institution, city, and state (or country) and should be indicated as a footnote to the respective author’s name. The work should be credited to the appropriate department and institution.
The corresponding author must provide complete contact details at the lower left of the Title Page, including full mailing address, office/mobile phone number and email address.
All acknowledgments and Conflicts of Interest should be included at the very end of the Title Page and may include supporting grants, presentations, and so forth. Contributors who do not qualify as authors should be mentioned under Acknowledgements.
Provide the clinical trial registration number with the registry name and URL (if applicable), include a statement confirming that all authors have read and approved the manuscript and meet authorship criteria.
[2] Blinded Article file: The main text of the article, beginning from Abstract till References (including tables) should be in this file. The file must not contain any mention of the author(s) names or initials or the institution at which the study was done or acknowledgements. Page headers/running title can include the title but not the author(s)names. Manuscripts not in compliance with the Journal's blinding policy will be returned to the corresponding author. Use .doc/.docx files. Do not zip the files. Limit the file size to 1 MB. Do not incorporate images in the file. If file size is large, graphs can be submitted as images separately without incorporating them in the article file to reduce the size of the file. The pages should be numbered consecutively, beginning with the first page of the blinded article file.
[3] Tables and Figures: Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text but should be included at the end of the manuscript on separate pages. Tables should be created with a word processor and cited consecutively in the text of manuscript and captions/title will be placed above the tables. To ensure the highest print quality (high-resolution), your figures must be submitted in TIF/JPG/JPEG format with a minimum 300 dpi or higher resolutions. Captions/legends will be placed below figures and adjusted to 10 font size. Do not zip the files.
[4] The copyright process is now digital to streamline manuscript submissions.
